Microsoft is releasing a series of upgrades for its OneNote apps development for Windows over the next 12 months with the goal of establishing a unified user experience. People may use one of two versions of OneNote right now: the OneNote software that comes with Office and the OneNote for Windows 10 app that can be found in the Microsoft Store.

However, Microsoft will upgrade the OneNote app with capabilities that are presently only available in the pre-installed OneNote app on Windows 10, as well as a visual makeover.

Microsoft had planned to eliminate the OneNote app when the Windows 10 version was released, but it changed its mind and brought it back in 2019. It added a slew of additional capabilities to the note-taking application and included it with Office installations a year later.

As part of Microsoft’s attempts to make Windows 11 more seamless, the tech giant says it will enhance OneNote with graphic components that will be shared with other Windows apps. The combined OneNote app will also have access to Microsoft’s newest pen and ink capabilities, as well as a new navigational UI layout option.

Those who already have the app downloaded with Office 365 email don’t need to do anything other than wait for the new upgrades to arrive. Those who use OneNote for Windows 10 will receive an in-app invitation to update to the new software whenever it’s available.

The firm claims it will begin issuing invites in the second half of 2022, and it is already recommending businesses to train their employees to use the OneNote app, so they won’t have to move next year.
